The Church voted to phase out the office of Deacon, at the end 2010.
"It is the duty of deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the
friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith.
They shall assume such duties as may be delegated to them from time to time by the
session..." (G-6.0402)
Marion Presbyterian Church Committees for 2010
WORSHIP, MUSIC, VISITORS, AND POLICIES COMMITTEE
Jane Waldrop-Chairperson,
This committee is charged with providing and maintaining meaningful traditional worship services. This committee will also be in charge of setting policies and dates concerning weddings, baptisms, Holy Communion, and other special and seasonal worship services such as the Joy Gift Service and the Christmas Eve Service. This committee is charged with providing leaders for Children's Church monthly and Word With the Children on the second Sunday of each month. This committee is also for the purpose of reaching out to the visitors to our congregation and following with a note of welcome and where appropriate recommend an in-home visit by the minister. The committee will inform the Church Life and Activities committee and Session about visitors. This committee shall also develop and maintain a volunteer Phone Tree.
EDUCATION, BIBLE STUDY, and LIBRARY COMMITTEE

This committee is charged with providing and maintaining Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. This committee will encourage the development and enactment of Bible study opportunities. This committee will be responsible for and the distribution of study guides and materials, while ensuring that all class room materials meet the standards set by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). This committee will work with the Sunday School Superintendent to secure teachers for each year and direct the use of classrooms. This committee is responsible for the Church Library. This committee will oversee Pioneer Fellowship by encouraging activities and aiding in securing leaders for different events. This committee will keep the Session informed about all forms of teaching the word of God.
MISSION OPPORTUNITIES AND SCHOLARSHIPS COMMITTEE

This committee will study and implement various mission and outreach programs to best utilize our congregation's time, talent, and finances. This committee will look at both local and global mission opportunities we may become involved in as a congregation. This committee will lead the congregation in serving the needy within and beyond our congregation through the Clothing Closet, Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, and other ways during the year. This committee shall enact and maintain contact with our young members in other places by sending cards, emails, care packages, etc. to young people as deemed appropriate. This committee will administer and distribute the Ella Davis Wall Scholarship Fund in accordance with all regulations, working closely with our Minister and Presbytery.
CHURCH LIFE COMMITTEE

This committee is for the purpose of coordinating and approving all events taking place in our Education Building. To organize and supervise Marion Presbyterian Church's Camp Pee Dee Weekend. To work with the Worship and Music Committee to entertain prospective members and new members. This committee will also plan special and seasonal programs for the enrichment of the entire church family. This committee is in charge of Dinner on the Grounds , Church Luncheons, and Family Night Suppers, in cooperation with the Social Committee. It is also the duty of this committee to plan events that are inclusive of the whole congregation. This committee will work to communicate with members and others that have not attended regularly. Contact them by phone, in person or other means. Let the Session/Diaconate be aware so that we all can reach out to the individuals.
YOUTH COMMITTEE

This committee is charged with the oversight of the Youth Group, encompassing all youth activities.
PROPERTY AND MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE
Erika Roberts-Chairperson
This committee shall lead the congregation to be good stewards of our buildings and grounds.
This can take place through a variety of ways such as using a long-term maintenance plan. The committee
shall also attend to emergencies relating to the church property.
FINANCE/STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE
Allen Meetze-Chairperson, and Sally Rowe, Treasurer. This committee is in charge of the church's money, budget and Stewardship Campaign.
ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
Blakely McIntyre-Chairperson
This committee is charged with maintenance of the church staff. The committee shall have an
annual meeting with each staff person and act as a liaison between the congregation and the church staff.
This committee shall also have job descriptions on file for each of the staff positions.
ENDOWMENT Committee
Class of 2009, Roy Roberts, Nancy Hodges. Class of 2010, Warren Wells and Will Eskridge
This committee is set up by the church bylaws to handle the financial accounts and planned giving of the church.
GIFTS AND MEMORIALS COMMITTEE
Roy Roberts-Chairperson, and Sally Rowe, Treasurer
This committee is set up by the church bylaws for the administration of special gifts, memorials, and honorariums given to the church.
All committees carry out their duties under the will of the Session. Monthly reports will be given to the Session about the activities and progress of committees that require reports. Other committees report as necessary.
